Iowa Western Community College

An online tool to help students find their path

Would you rather bake cookies or counsel a friend in an argument? Would you rather test a patient for allergies or teach children mathematics?

These are some of the questions a prospective student should ask before entering a higher education atmosphere. Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) came to us to design and build a microsite that could give incoming students a feel for how the college helps them find the right path. Asking those questions early on also gives students a nudge to start thinking about their future.

We worked closely with staff to determine what questions should be asked and what actions should be triggered to continue the conversation and add value to the student experience. Ultimately, we created an engaging and informative online tool.

Here is how it works:

As the potential student responds to questions at the top of the screen, the panels continue to shift down to reflect the students’ preferences. The site suggests areas of interest and filters them in real time. The questionnaire also allows the user to pause and explore the panels, which provide additional information about each track.
